Combine in a saucepan and heat until warm.
-1 Cup of Milk
-1 Cup of Water
-2 Tablespoons of Sugar
-1 Tablespoon of vegetable shortening or lard
-1 Tablespoon of butter
-1 Tablespoon of Salt
Combine in a large bowl and let stand until dissolved. About 5 minutes.
-1/4 Cup of warm water
-2 1/4 Tablespoons of active dry yeast
Have ready:
-6 1/2 Cups of all-purpose flour
Add the warm milk mixture to the dissolved yeast bowl. Stir in 3 cups of flour. Beat for 1 minute. Gradually add in 3 more cups of flour. Toss dough onto a floured board and knead until smooth, elastic, and doesn’t stick to your hands; do this by gradually adding more flour.
Place dough into greased bowl and flip it over once. Then place a cloth or towel over it and let it stand at room temperature for 1 hour.
After 1 hour, remove the cloth and beat the dough down. Replace the towel when done and let stand for another hour.
After 1 hour, remove the dough and part it in half, making two loafs. Place in two greased loaf pans and cover with a clean cloth. Let it stand for another hour.
After 1 hour, pre-heat the oven to 450°F. Bake the bread for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes, turn the heat down to 350°F and bake the bread for another half hour. Bake until golden brown and test the readiness by tapping the bottom of the pans and listening for a hollow sound.
Once done, remove the loafs immediately and place on a cooling rack. Let them cool completely before serving.
